- That sounds a little like the old Space Derby with propeller rockets.

- Instead of a proper pinewood derby, maybe you could come up with something that utilizes a rope that is tied up so it its slanted. Then we have materials so you can build some kind of a contraption to hang from to race down the ropes? Basically some hooks and the rest is up to you. Winner might end up being a piece of 2x4 with 2 hooks attached to it. Seems like it could have some similarities to the mechanics of a pinewood derby without having to setup a big track for it.
