Camp Set-Up

Description: We organize our personal gear and make the camp ready for use by bringing things in and organizing them.
Basics: Help set up group gear, then ext up your own gear.
Instructions: Please bring in your gear and place it on your bunk. Help set up any group equipment as requested, then set up your own gear.
Equipment: All of it.

Orientation

Description: Explain camp to the new and remind the old of the rules.
Preparation: We should have an agenda for the meeting and probably a list of teams to distribute. For those who haven't received them yet, binders should also be on hand.
Basics: Explain camp to the new and remind the old of the rules. Introduce everyone and divide into teams for the week. Create Duty Roster.

4-Way Volleyball

Description: 2 Nets criss-cross creating a nice X. One team is in each side and the game is played much like volleyball
Preparation: Prior to the nets erection, the field should be inspected for hazards like holes or rocks which could result in injuries. If the field can't be cleared, then a different location should be selected.
Basics: Mostly plays just like volleyball
Instructions:
  1. There are four teams instead of two, and two nets are placed across each other to form an X
  2. Scoring starts at 0 and teams get a point every time they make a mistake
  3. Score fifteen points and you're out
  4. Dead courts (areas left vacant by a team being eliminated) are out of bounds
  5. Service is by the team counter-clockwise from the team making the error
  6. We rotate courts any time any team reaches a score divisible evenly by four
  7. If there are only two teams left, they must move to diagonally opposite courts (the Haubenstricker amendment).

Arrowmen Bingo

Description: Arrowmen are given a card with descriptions of campers. They get the card signed in a spot of their choice and it becomes their random card for a later bingo game.
Basics: There is a list of qualities and/or nicknames. Arrowmen meet people who meet those criteria and get them to sign. Later we play Bingo by calling out real names with the goal of getting 5 in a row. Sometimes we play for other things as well like corners or cover alls.
Equipment: Cards with quality list.
Bingo chips.
Prizes.

Time Capsule Opening

Description: We open the time capsule and examine/discuss the contents.
Preparation: The capsule should be retrieved during set-up day. Tables where the contents will be displayed should be covered and those retrieving things need to pay attention in case something has become dangerous.
Basics: Everyone is gathered and we need to not crowd too much. Those emptying the castle should describe what's coming out and pass it around if desired before we lay the best things on a table. Some things are returned to their owners.
Instructions: Enjoy yourself.
Equipment: We need tools to open the capsule and possibly make repairs if it has been damaged.

Blind Hike

Description: Destination Unknown
Preparation: Destinations should be selected to ensure they can be reached safely without creating needless risk.
Basics: Members don blindfolds for this annual Handicapped Awareness experience. All members are blindfolded.
Instructions:
  • Hike cautiously
  • Pay attention to your other senses.
  • Don't remove your blindfold unless there's an emergency

Basics: Participants turn off lights in the sleeping areas and prepare for bed. Those who choose not to participate must speak in hushed tones and avoid using noisy equipment.

Description: Provide labor for a project to improve camp as designated by the ranger staff
Preparation: Campers should be assigned to projects based on their skill level and age to ensure tools are used correctly and to match capabilities to tasks.
Basics: Stay safe. Don't use dangerous tools. Try to watch out for the person next to you too. Do what the rangers ask (or better).
Instructions: Stay safe and work hard.
Equipment: Rangers will let us know if there are any tools they recommend.

Description: A trivia game which combines elements of spelling bee, geography bee and other bees.
Basics: There will be a number of categories drawn from things like spelling, geography, and other common bee topics.

Movie Marathon

Description: Continuous watching of movies
Basics: We watch movies. Possibly we pick a lengthy series related to the theme of the current Winter Camp.
Equipment: Projector, movies.

Cross-Country Golf

Description: The Winter Camp classic par 62 hole
Preparation: Rangers/Campmaster should be consulted to determine if the lake is considered safe, prior to the event so we can declare the lakes out of bounds if necessary.
Basics: Test your skills on our Par 62 course. Teams tee off at the Beaver Creek Skills building and attempt to put the ball in the cup, which is located at the nearby BC Field Sports area.
Instructions:
  1. The game is played as teams, with a fixed rotation, kind of like batting order in baseball.
  2. If a player can strike the ball again without moving his/her feet, then they can take a free stroke; this is the Rand Rule.
  3. Most other rules are the same as reqular golf.

Scout Morality Challenge

Description: Scouts attend multiple stations. At each station they are given a task and must complete it. There are rules but you don't know them.
Basics: Teams are judged by what they did to meet their goal.

Kangaroo Court

Description: Each team accuses the others of a crime. The accused don't know their crime but must defend themsleves
Preparation: Should try to set up a courtroom of sorts.
Basics: Each team accuses one of the other teams of some crime. The teams must defend themselves from the charges by convincing the dictators they are innocent. The catch is they don't know the charges.

Rand's Believe It Or Not!

Description: Demonstrate items with unusual stories.
Basics: Teams are given an object, probably something
Instructions: Examine your object and decide what the dictator(s) did with it to prove their greatness.

Capture The Objective

Description: he classic Winter Camp sized game of Capture the Flag is back. Plays much like Capture the Flag except we add additional treasures to be stolen and if you're caught, it just costs your team points. After two hours of play, whichever has scored the most (or least) points is the winning team.
Basics: This game is played with points.
Getting captured costs your team points.
Stealing a treasure earns you points.
Making a capture earns points.
Stealing the objective is a lot of points.
Equipment: Objects to serve as treasure.
Object to be the objective.
Hole punch to mark captures.
ID card to get punched if caught.

String Maze

Description: Try to negotiate it for speed
Basics: Navigate the string from one end to the other without ever not touching a string.

4-Square

Description: The official indoor game of Winter Camp
Basics: Create quadrants.
One quadrant is the king's square; the king serves.
The other squares are subordinate.
Anyone who makes a mistake goes to the lest important square and everyone before them moves up one square.
There's not actually a winning condition other than being in the King Square.
Equipment: Ball

Water Rocket Construction

Description: Construct the typical Boy Scout rocket from a two liter bottle and assorted bits of foam and cardboard.
Basics: Construct the typical Boy Scout rocket from a two liter bottle and assorted bits of foam and cardboard. Later we compete to see whose goes the highest and/or furthest.

Water Rocket Launch

Description: Rockets which have been built fro two-liter bottles and assorted bits of craft materials are launched using a compressor.
Preparation: Rockets should be built in advance. Launch area must be clear of hazards and in a large clearing so rockets can land safely.
Basics: Rockets are clamped into the launcher. Everyone moves back at least 30'. Rockets are pressurized using a compressor and gauge. When the pressure is sufficient, the compressor is stopped and the launch cord is pulled.
An adult must serve as launch coordinator.
Instructions: Mount your rocket and move back at least 30'. Keep your eye on the launched rockets in case of a mishap.
Equipment: Air Compressor, rocket launching equipment, long air hoses.

Revolution

Description: The revolutionaries win and the ruling dictators and their rules are deposed.
Basics: Rules are eliminated, hopefully in an entertaining and triumphant way.

Time Capsule

Description: There are several parts to this activity, but the core is that we bury something and several years later we dig it up
Preparation: Campers need to be prepared for a hike on a steep slope. Equipment should be carried which allows the safe collection of candles at the end of the hike. This includes flashlights, thick gloves, and appropriate containers.
Basics: We find some items we think would be significant, including perhaps a letter to your future self. They are loaded in the capsule which is buried with some pomp and circumstance.
Hopefully 5 years later, we dig it up so you can see what you sent yourself.

Carnival Games

Description: We put on a midway with unfair games and sideshow attractions.
Preparation: Need to set up games and possibly a sideshow area.
Basics: Abide by the rules of individual games. Ideally each game has at least two barkers so no one is stuck.
Instructions: Have fun! Take turns running games for others.
Equipment: Carnival games.

Frisbee Ultimate

Description: Somewhere between football and soccer
Basics: Each team has a goal line which the other team tries to psss. The frisbee is thrown and whichever team catches it tries to move towards the goal and score a point. You can only take three steps when catching and only if you were already moving. If the frisbee hits the ground, the team which didn't throw it last takes possession at that point. Defenders must stand at arm's length from the current thrower.
Equipment: Fribees and pylons to mark boundaries.
